Common Questions

What people
want to know

What exactly does a doula do?
A doula is a trained, non-medical birth professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support during pregnancy, labour and postpartum. Unlike medical staff, your doula's sole focus is on you — helping you feel informed, supported and empowered. I complement your midwife or doctor, not replace them.
Do I need a doula if I'm having a planned C-section?
Absolutely. A doula is just as valuable for a caesarean birth. I can help you prepare emotionally, understand the procedure, advocate for your preferences in theatre (like delayed cord clamping or skin-to-skin), and support you through recovery and the early postpartum period.
Can my partner still be involved if I have a doula?
Yes — and most partners feel far more confident and capable with a doula present. Coaching your partner is a key part of what I do. Many fathers and partners say the doula gave them something meaningful to contribute, and helped them feel less helpless during labour.
What if you're not available when I go into labour?
I manage my client intake carefully to ensure I'm available for your birth. In the very rare event of an unforeseen conflict, I have a trusted network of fellow doulas I can connect you with, and I will brief them fully on your birth plan and preferences.
Do you work with medical aid?
I am a preferred provider with Fedhealth. For other medical aids, I recommend checking directly with your scheme. Many families pay privately — the peace of mind and support a doula provides is considered well worth the investment.
